Impromptu NYC Trip

This weekend was busy but even still I managed to link with my good friend Ace and we went to NYC for a few hours. Being that it was a Sunday and a beautiful day we did not want to deal with driving around and being stuck in traffic. It was already the early afternoon and we didn’t want to waste any time so we decided to meet up and take a PATH train which gave us flexibility.

We ended up staying around the WTC/Financial District and ventured over the Brooklyn Bridge before the light started to get away from us. I have a long list of bucket shots I want to get in NYC and even though we live close enough I don’t find myself in the city as much as I would like.

For gear I brought along my XH2 and XT4 along with my XF 18mm f/1.4 and XF 33mm f/1.4. Inside my bag I also carried both of my zooms, my XF 16-55 f/2.8 along with my XF 50-140 f/2.8. I used the longer zoom for a few shots but I ultimately ended up regretting bringing everything along with me. I wasn’t quite sure what the day would hold for me when I left my apartment in the morning so while I was plenty prepared for the day, I was not prepared for trekking around NYC.

I’ve been experimenting with different black and white styles/looks lately and I really like the one I have been using this past weekend. I took a few color frames though, just because.

I did not do any Straight Out Of Camera photos this time, they are processed in Capture One but the edits are subtle, basic tone curve adjustments.

All in all we were probably only in the city for 3 hours before heading back home - but I’m reminded that a lot can happen in a short time and that I should be more spontaneous.

Note to self: I need to get some self portraits done during these walks - I gotta hand off a cam to Ace next time.
